It all began with the birdhouses...

...three of them. Just the plain wooden birdhouse blanks bought at Michael's. Well, I thought I would creepify them a little for Halloween (naturally my favorite holiday.)

Little did I know how consuming this project would become.

I picked the ones that looked the most like "real" houses and less like homes for little feathered friends. I wanted the effect of a little spooky village.

I started by painting them each a base color (red for one, black for the 2 others.) Over that I painted crackle medium, to give the paint top coat a weathered, aging look. After the top coats were done, I dry-brushed them with dark gray streaks because they didn't look "old" enough to me.

As a bonus I added a few streaks of glow-in-the-dark paint and a couple of little ghost stickers in the "windows." I was having a lot of fun...so why stop there?
